I just finished reading this book. I found it in a clearance bin at the bookstore. It sounded interesting. It took me a couple of months to actually get around to reading it (too many other school books to read). At first I thought it was a fictional story about the 1854 cholera outbreak in London, however, once I started reading I found out that it is simply about the 1854 cholera outbreak in London-talk about exciting!!???!
Anyway, Zac ended up looking at it over my shoulder eventually stealing it from me (I had to go and check out another copy at the library to accomodate the two of us). The funny thing is, it isn't the greatest book to read. There are some sections that are very interesting, but overall it was a bit disappointing (Zac agrees). So why I am writing about it? Because it did make me think about a lot of things that we just take for granted like clean drinking water, sewage pipes, and an abundance of water in my own home with the turn of a faucet. I love imagining the victorian era but I am positively glad to live in this day and age.
p.s. I did learn that if you ever end up with Cholera make sure you replenish your bucketfuls of lost fluids like crazy! Although it's probably best to make it to the hospital and have them help you with that intravenously.
